Weight: 165.2
Breakfast: 1 cup of coffee, 3 egg whites with a little cheese and a little salsa in a wheat tortilla
Snack: Handful of roasted salted almonds
Lunch: Chicken breast I had marinated in Italian dressing and a VitaTop corn muffin (DELISH!)
Snack: Handful of trail mix
Snack: Laughing cow cheese (1 wedge) and pretzel crisps
Dinner: Brown rice, turkey taco meat (ground turkey w/ taco seasoning) and 2 fried egg whites (weird, I know - I'll know if anyone is reading this because someone is SURE to get grossed out!) mixed in a bowl.
Dessert: I haven't had it yet, but I'm having a MAD chocolate craving! I'm probably going to have a small glass of lowfat chocolate Silk soy milk to cure that craving.
Exercise: Up at 5:10am to attend a 5:45am spin class for the first time! And, yes, my butt hurts from that seat! OUCH! I have HUGE respect for those who consistently do spin classes!
Well, I was disappointed when I got home from spin class and got on the scale and saw that I'd gained since yesterday. But here's the thing. I know I'm being a little obsessive about weighing in - and I'm primarily doing that so I can track my progress and so you, as my readers, can see what I'm dealing with on a daily basis so you can know you're not alone with the ups and downs of trying to get fit. So I did some research this morning on why we can sometimes gain weight when we know we're doing all the right things - eating healthy and working out.
Apparently when you do strength training, your muscles retain water as they heal, so the poundage on the scale can go up the day after you strength trained, which I did do yesterday. Also, I really should be measuring myself instead of just relying on the scale. Maybe I will see if David would want to help me keep a log of that, just for kicks.
My main point is this: Let's not let the scale deter us from doing what we KNOW is right. A few ounces/pounds here and there fluctuating isn't the end of the world. Yes, my pants are looser today even though the scale says I weigh a little more. No, I'm not going to stop doing what I'm doing because of the scale.
I really stepped out of my comfort zone in going to that spin class. I challenge you to do the same with something that you've always wondered about. I found out that, yes, it is as hard as I thought it would be. I even almost fainted at one point - but thankfully I know my limits, so I just got off the bike and took a seat on the floor. I'll be going back on Friday (provided I wake up!) and I'm going to try again. Doing things that your body isn't used to phsyically can definitely take your body off guard and help you to lose the weight you've been wanting to. Doing the same thing over and over isn't always the best idea. You need to shock your body. Hey, you can even shock your mind with trying something new! And just think of how good it feels. I'm VERY proud of myself for trying the spin class, and I feel a boost of self-esteem about it!
